PROGRAMS & PROJECTS.
The Milimanipark Project: A Sports Academy in Tanzania
The Idea – A Sports and Training Project for the Youth
A few children kick a ball made from plastic bags barefoot on a dusty soccer field. Young football enthusiasts also come from neighboring villages. However, discovering or nurturing talent here is unlikely. Most of these children do not attend school, and the risk of them becoming involved in crime or drug addiction is high.
The Milimanipark Project aims to change this! The project's goal is to provide these children with a safe social environment through the establishment of a sports academy, giving them the opportunity to develop and recognize their potential. With the support of local professionals, a sustainable academy will be built. Plans include initiating an educational program in collaboration with international volunteers and trained coaches to care for and specifically support several hundred children and youth, primarily in the afternoons. This creates an academic environment where they can be active as students and later as players, supported not only in sports but also in their personal and health development. The latter will be ensured through the establishment of a cooking school attached to the academy.
The Buildings
The Building
The construction of the buildings will be carried out with a focus on sustainability and climate considerations, using locally sourced materials such as clay. The development, planning, and construction will take place with the support of MVRDV the renowned Dutch architectural firm, and reliable local partners.
The academy will be equipped with sports fields/football pitches, a gymnasium with sports equipment, dormitories, a communal hall for meetings and celebrations, and a cooking school.
The responsible council in Mto Wa Mbu has already approved the project and has signaled that the necessary permits will be granted. The land for the project is also already secured.
